Chappo

Main Session:

Speaker: John “Chappo” Chapman -

John Chapman, affectionately known as “Chappo”, is a well-known preacher, Bible teacher and evangelist associated with the Sydney Anglican church. He has authored several books including “A Fresh Start”, “Know and Tell the Gospel”, “Setting Hearts on Fire”, “A Sinner’s Guide to Holiness”, and “Making the Most of the Rest of Your Life”, all published by Matthias Media. The Australian edition of “A Fresh Start” has sold nearly 40,000 copies since 1999. (The UK edition has been published by The Good Book Company, who have also published Polish and French language editions.)

For 25 years he was the Director of the Anglican Department of Evangelism in Sydney, after beginning his career as a school teacher prior to theological training. Now in his ‘retirement’ he continues to teach at Bible colleges, to speak at conventions around the world, and to find time for the occasional game of tennis and golf.

The single men’s accommodation at Moore Theological College was renamed “John Chapman House” in Chapman’s honour.

Seminars:

Rites of Passage – Steve Allen

Steve and his wife Carmen have been married 23 years, and have 2 sons who have now both left home. Steve became a Christian when he was very young and has always loved the Bible. In 2004 he published a book entitled “The Buy Back Scheme” which explains Christianity in a very Aussie style. Steve & Carmen are also speakers for FamilyLife marriage seminars for NSW. He makes a living working for a steel supply company in Newcastle, and lives in Port Stephens.

How to Have an Affair (How not to!) – Ian Barnett

Ian is the Senior Pastor of Figtree Anglican Church, a large evangelical church in Wollongong. He has been married to Rhonda for 29 years and has 3 children and 1 grand daughter. He has been in fulltime paid ministry for over 20 years. In more recent years he was the Evangelism Director at Castle Hill Anglican Church before taking up his current role. He has a passion for reaching the lost and what makes men tick and has been involved in and lead Men’s ministries for many years. He is also a tragic supporter of Cronulla Sharks, loves movies and finds his strength from his joy in the Lord.

Dealing with Depression – David Lienert

David is a thirty something year old married man with three netball mad daughters.  Originally from New Zealand, the land of the great white sheep, he has settled to living here on the Coast over the last six years.  David is a psychiatrist, working part time at Gosford Hospital and part time in private practice.  He attends a local church and by God’s grace has been a Christian since his conversion during his university days.  His passions include Christ, running, his family, history and, dare I mention it, cheering the All Blacks.

Spark up your Marriage – Tony & Julie Heywood

Tony and Julie have been married for 23 years.  Married in 1987 in Sydney, they moved to the Central Coast after the birth of their first child, Lachlan.  It was either Blacktown or Berkeley Vale.  The Coast won hands down. As an IT Professional, Tony travels to Sydney 5 days a week and Julie is a Textiles and Design teacher at Wyong Christian Community School.  Between their professions and having four children between the ages of 22 and 15, they lead pretty busy lives.

In addition, they are volunteer speakers for Family Life Australia, in the area of Marriage Seminars.  They have spoken into the lives of hundreds of individuals and couples that are willing to invest time in their relationship.  While not Counsellors, they have developed a wealth of material to impart to any audience willing to listen. Tony and Julie have been Christians since 1989 and they call The Lakes Evangelical Church, at Berkeley Vale their home and they are delighted to be able to participate in such a worthwhile ministry as the Coast Men’s Convention.

Secret Men’s Business – Bob Silberman

As a Christian clinical psychologist and pastor for more than twenty years Bob Silberman has assisted men with Secret Men’s Business in the areas of sexual issues, pornography, substance abuse, anger and their inability to express their feelings.

Bob is married to Denise who actively supports him in his work.

Delegates can each attend 2 seminars, unless you elect ‘How to have an affair (how not to!)’, which is a double length session.
